It would be useful to send out requests to people from various smtp servers for different boards.

I would think, that in that case, for any new board someone would need to add another smtp server for email notifications to work? Isn't that a lot of configuration?
And probably that would be a lot of emails
I would think, it would be better to setup one outgoing webhook to one chat, for each board, for example to RocketChat. See Wekan GitHub wiki https://github.com/wekan/wekan/wiki right menu Outgoing Webhooks.
so activities from one board would go to one chat channel
like private channel at rocketchat
and from another board activities would go to anoher private chat channel

although, depends what kind of emails you need
due dates, etc only

there is also some notification email related settings, that you see with command on server: wekan.help | less

Some contributor added it, but I have not yet figured out how it works :D LOL
Well, Wekan is full of features and fixes added by some 180 contributors, during about 5,5 years Wekan has been in development

or do you mean outgoing + incoming email per board?
